Children Acquire a Native Language Children acquire their native language when they begin to understand simple phrases. Adults talk to children with baby talk. Soon, the children begin to babble the sounds of their simple thoughts. As children mature, they absorb the basics of the spoken language and begin to coherently express their thoughts. Without learning grammar, children begin to use words, phrases, and sentences to communicate logical and complex thoughts. They assume that their native language is the only way to communicate.
